Class Descriptions

GOOD GROUND YOGA FLOW

This is our signature class.  Inspired by Ana Forrest, this class is a strong dynamic flow integrating deep long holds with vigilant attention to the breath. Classes include core work, sun salutations, sitting and standing sequences, back bends, arm balances and inversions. With a precise focus on alignment, this class is a deep, sweaty, transformative mind/body experience.

This is our signature class.  Expect lots of core work, flowing sequences and tons of fun! This class is for all levels.

FORREST YOGA

Based on the teachings of Ana Forrest, Forrest Yoga classes are carefully sequenced to spread breath throughout the body and remove emotional shielding deep within the muscular system. Learn to work the edges of physical and emotional reactivity and sensations of the body. Poses are held long, flow sequence moves slower, sweat builds as you learn to connect deeply to your core. Options are given for beginning and advanced students. Instructors are trained extremely well for modification for injuries and options during pregnancy.

THE YOGA WAY: practices for a more connected life

Yoga is more than just yoga poses (asana).  It is a way of life.  Join us as we explore different techniques and practices to help find meaning and connection in our daily lives off the yoga mat.  Each class will include different aspects of ceremony, discussion, breathing exercises and mediation.  This class is open to everyone.

VINYASA

A vigorous style of free flowing yoga which gives the student plenty of opportunity for personal expression and movement patterns within the flowing sequence. Rhythmic sun salutes, creative sequencing and the progressive linking of poses and series keeps this class energetic and fun filled from start to finish.

ASHTANGA

Ashtanga Yoga is a dynamic and physical form of yoga founded by Sheik. Pattabhi Jois (1915-2009).  The Led Primary Series is a 75 minute class focused on synchronization of the breath with the body’s movement using a set of progressive series of asanas (postures).  Students are guided throughout with additional instruction and modifications provided so the practice is accessible to all.  The practice is meant to generate internal heat, strengthening circulation and purifying and revitalizing he body’s muscles and inner organs.  This is a spiritual practice that purifies the body and mind.

SLOW FLOW

A sweet mindful class for students looking to move slowly from one pose to the next. A wonderful way to unwind from the day and build energy and intelligence in the body.

THERAPEUTICS

This class is designed to address specific health problems such as high blood pressure, osteoporosis, chronic fatigue and back, neck, shoulder and hip pain.  Each week is geared toward a specific topic and will help students learn to live pain free as well as improve the student’s overall health and well-being. This class is for all levels.

BASIC

This class will give you the tools necessary to build a lifetime of yoga and is the perfect foundation on which to build your practice. Geared towards beginners, this class is also suitable for any student who would like to reacquaint themselves with the fundamentals and brush up on the basics. Students will build flexibility, intelligence and strength while also deepening their relationship with their authentic self.

GENTLE

This class is designed for those who prefer a class less vigorous than Basic. It includes gentle stretches and breathing as well as simple movements designed to systematically increase the range of motion of every major joint and increase energy. This class is ideal for students with chronic symptoms such as muscle/joint pain, stiffness, weakness, or fatigue.

RESTORATIVE

This class is appropriate for all students seeking the benefits of a very relaxing, gentle, and nourishing practice. The combination of gentle hatha and deep restorative work improves range of motion and joint mobility while reducing pain and the effects of stress. Students with injuries, arthritis, or other chronic conditions are welcome in these classes.  No prior yoga experience required.

YIN YOGA

Yin Yoga focuses on the slow, patient, opening of the fascial layer of the body. The fascia is the connective tissue (shrink wrap) that underlies the skin, wraps the muscles, and holds the bones together. It is the conduit for the meridians of the body through which energy flows. Over time chronic tightness of this layer causes stiffness and inflexibility,restricting mobility and energy flow. Fascia responds differently than muscle and requires this slow approach to facilitate opening. This is a deeply meditative practice. No prior yoga experience required.

Y12SR

The characteristics and effects of addiction could easily be described as separation. Addictive behaviors disconnect us from ourselves, our loved ones, our environment and so much more. Conversely, yoga itself means union, integration, balance. Yoga and its practices teach the fine art of balancing our multidimensional lives while living in a complex world.  Yoga of 12-Step Recovery was created as a holistic model to address the physical, mental and spiritual dis-ease of addiction. Informed by the latest research in neuroscience and trauma healing, Y12SR “connects the dots” by combining the somatic approach of yoga with the cognitive approach of the 12-step recovery model – the most well-known addiction recovery program in the world, with millions of active practitioners.
