Good Ground Yoga, in the heart of Hampton Bays, New York, is a vibrant, creative center where people gather to embrace the spirit of yoga and holistic healing. We welcome students from all walks of life– from first time students to seasoned practitioners.
Most of our classes are either Forrest Yoga classes or Forrest Inspired classes (our signature GGY Flow). Created by Ana Forrest over 30 years ago, Forrest Yoga is a practice designed to free up physical and emotional blocks in the body. In our classes you will learn how to build strength safely, work with injuries, and connect more fully to your breath.
What makes this style of yoga different from others is the focus on working safely and therapeutically. When creating Forrest Yoga, Ana Forrest drew upon her personal history of abuse, epilepsy, alcoholism, and bulimia to create an intensely physical vinyasa-style practice that aims to heal psychic wounds. Forrest incorporates elements of Native American healing, encouraging students to go deep within and to use their yoga practice as therapy.
What to expect in our classes?
Each class begins with about 20-30 minutes opening tight spots, abdominal work, and strength building poses. Then you will build internal heat through sun salutations and long held standing poses. Each class leads towards an apex. Depending on the level of class the apex may include: arm balances, inversions, back bends, and deep hip openers (modifications are always given).
We believe that each person is unique. We come in all shapes, sizes and abilities. We believe that each student brings to the yoga mat their own story, history and experiences. This is why we approach each student with wonder and reverence. Our job at Good Ground Yoga is to make each student feel safe, well cared for and personally tended to.
